Intensive / Beak
Treatment
Trials have proved so impressive that Hy-Line now
has six treatment machines installed and operating.
When you receive a consignment of beak treated chicks,
there are a few simple actions you can undertake to maintain their good
health and potential:
Water
Your
birds will need easy access to water for the first week. You should
provide them with water immediately, but wait six or eight hours before
adding food. Increase the drinkers available and keep the water clean and
fresh. Flush the water lines hourly on the first day and every two hours
on the second. You should also use a mesh around the waterers to keep the
bird comfortable.
Light
Treated layer chicks should be placed in the top or second cage
and drop lights may be necessary to illuminate all cages. Increased light
keeps birds alert and drinking.
Heat
Consistent temperatures are important. You should maintain the
warmth between 3 degrees F below and 2 degrees F above target temperature.
Bedding
Don’t pull papers too soon and keep the bird
comfortable.
We’ve created these guidelines to provide the best
conditions for the birds when they leave the hatchery and by following
them, you will encourage the birds to flourish, maximising your success.
